Laurenz Stockner was born in 1971 near Brixen. To his formative childhood impressions counts the work of the local blacksmith, in which house the family lived.

After completing his compulsory school, he attended a quinquennial apprenticeship as a metal worker and worked further five years in his acquired profession.

Then he moved to Florence, where he attended a jewelry school for two years. After that followed a practical training alongside the goldsmith Manfred Bischoff, attendance at the Summer Academy of Fine Arts in Salzburg and completed a biennial practical training as a wrought-iron craftsman.

Since 2003 he has been running his own studio and workshop in St. Andrä.

In addition to his artistic work on bowls, Stockner's craftsmanship and design skills flow into collaborations with other artists, architects and private individuals.

Stockner exhibits regularly and has received important awards. Among others, the "Bayerischer Staatspreis" and the "Grassipreis" at the Museum of Applied Arts Leipzig

In 2018, he was a finalist in the international "Loewe craft prize".

His works are represented in international art collections.
